For those who would like to explore some of the menus on offer, there are six of the best dining options that Newbury has to offer.

1. The Vineyard

When it comes to fine dining The Vineyard offers an experience that is amongst the best in the British Isles. This restaurant is the recipient of a 3 Rosette rating – and the art deco touches and the sheer luxury of finishes such as linen tablecloths and the levels of service make it a pleasure to take a seat in the dining area. The offerings such as the five or seven-course tasting menus are the perfect way to experience chef Tom Scade’s approach to cuisine. Highlights such as the Cornish lobster and the pan-fried Cod are well worth exploring. The wine cellar with its 30,000 bottles ensures the perfect pairing with any meal.

2. The Crab and Boar

If diners wish to enjoy exquisite British cuisine and some of the best seafood and game dishes available anywhere in the UK this is a dining destination that should not be missed. The food is out o9f the top drawer and the ambience is warm and friendly. 2 AA Rosettes are a testament to the quality of the offering. Enjoying a meal on the terrace overlooking the scenic Berkshire countryside is a special treat. The great wine list.

3. The Carnarvon Arms

This is a modern interpretation of the country inn – and the execution is flawless. Relaxed atmosphere and a dining area with a wonderful bar make each visit a pleasure. Pub classics abound and traditional British cuisine is the order of the day. The execution of the fish and chips (young ale battered cod fillet gets a special mention) is masterful. However, the locally produced Newbury sausages served with mash and the Sunday Roast should not be ignored. A fabulous wine list compliments the usual pub offerings.

4. The Bunk Inn

Local produce allows the chefs at this fabulous inn to create menu items that sing with flavour. Starters such as the venison and black pudding with homemade piccalilli are a delight, while the classic fish pie packed with King Prawns, mussels, salmon, cod and smoked haddock and served with mash and buttered greens is comfort food at its very best. As a side, the truffle and Parmesan Fries are immensely rewarding. The traditional Sunday lunch will not disappoint.

5. Henry and Joes

This is the modern British bistro taken to new heights. It started as a pop-up and quickly morphed into one of the best restaurants in Berkshire, if not the entire U.K. The simplicity of the dishes is deceiving – the depths of the flavour of everything (including the bread made on-site) is wonderful. With owners Joe and Henry in attendance it is simply a pleasure to take a seat – and the service is exceptionally professional. Highlights include the venison main and the pigeon. Do not ignore the desserts, wine or the option of the tasting menu.

6. The Spotted Dog

Another great option for classic British and European inspired menu offerings. An outside deck is a fabulous option during the summer months – and the addition of Gin Bar with over 100 varieties will delight those who enjoy this Juniper infused wonder. It’s also extremely family-friendly – a bonus for those who want to bring along the kids to enjoy a day out. Vegetarians should dive in the curry offering. The Sunday Roast should not be ignored – and menu items such as the beef stew and dumplings will delight even the most demanding of gourmands. Seafood lovers will delight in the Sea Bass.
